Many older power distribution rooms, workshops, and buildings require the addition of metering, online monitoring, or earth-leakage protection. The biggest challenge is installing the current transformers:
Applying for a power outage involves a lengthy process; a single day of downtime for a factory or supermarket can result in losses ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands.
Standard through-hole transformers require disconnecting cables and removing busbars—a labor-intensive process that risks damaging existing wiring.
Cramped cabinet interiors often leave no space to thread cables through standard transformers, and rerouting wiring wastes both time and materials.
Temporary inspections or troubleshooting require installing and then removing the device, creating an inefficient, back-and-forth workflow.
Our clamp-on current transformers solve these problems: simply open the jaws, clamp them onto the cable or busbar, and secure the wiring. Installation requires no power interruption or modification of existing lines, effectively doubling installation efficiency.
1. True "Live" Installation
Featuring a split-core design, it eliminates the need to cut cables or dismantle busbars; with proper safety procedures, it can be clamped directly onto live lines. This saves the significant costs associated with outage applications and line disassembly, cutting project timelines by over 70%—making it ideal for retrofitting power systems in factories, hospitals, data centers, and supermarkets that cannot afford downtime.
2. Stable, Compliant Accuracy

Power distribution safety and load survey project in Leliu Industrial Park, Shunde, Foshan
Project Name: Power Distribution Safety Survey and Load Diagnosis Project for Leliu Subdistrict Industrial Park, Shunde District, Foshan City
Location: Guangda Industrial Zone, Leliu Subdistrict, Shunde District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province
Implementation Period: October 15 – November 5, 2025 Application Product: Full range of split-core clamp-on current transformers (5 specifications ranging from φ30mm to φ150mm)
Leliu Subdistrict is a hub for hardware and home appliance manufacturing in Shunde. The Guangda Industrial Park houses 32 large-scale manufacturing enterprises; their power distribution systems were installed between 2005 and 2024, resulting in significant disparities in equipment age. Local emergency management authorities collaborated with third-party power O&M (operations and maintenance) agencies to conduct comprehensive power distribution safety inspections and load characteristic diagnostics for the park's enterprises. They screened for safety hazards such as overloading, three-phase imbalance, and insulation aging, while simultaneously providing data to support energy-saving retrofits.
As manufacturing enterprises could not afford prolonged power outages for inspections, the project exclusively utilized split-core clamp-on current transformers for current data acquisition, paired with portable energy data terminals. This enabled continuous monitoring of all circuits without interrupting the power supply.
Significant resistance to outage-based inspections; low enterprise cooperation
Most enterprises in the park operate on an order-based production model; halting a production line for just one hour results in losses ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of yuan. Traditional window-type (solid-core) current transformers require disconnecting wires and cutting power for installation, making cooperation difficult for most enterprises and stalling inspection progress.
Wide variation in circuit specifications; single-range equipment insufficient
Current levels range from tens of amperes for workshop lighting branches to over two thousand amperes for main incoming busbars, with varying cable and busbar dimensions. Traditional inspection equipment typically has a fixed measurement range, necessitating the transport of multiple sets of devices and resulting in low O&M efficiency.
Instantaneous readings fail to reflect true load characteristics
Standard clamp-on multimeters only capture instantaneous current values, failing to record load fluctuations during periods such as morning peaks or nighttime standby. They also struggle to detect hidden issues like intermittent overloads or three-phase imbalance fluctuations, limiting the practical value of the inspection results.
Complex on-site wiring; low deployment efficiency
Traditional fixed inspection equipment involves cumbersome installation, requiring over half an hour to deploy on a single circuit. With nearly 300 circuits across the park, the estimated completion time exceeded two months, failing to meet the schedule requirements for the special rectification campaign.
To meet the core requirements of non-intrusive (no power outage), multi-range, and rapid deployment capabilities, the project utilizes five specifications of split-core clamp-on current transformers (CTs). These are matched to the specific current ratings and conductor dimensions of various circuits and paired with portable power quality terminals to facilitate 72 hours of continuous data acquisition.
Core Solution Design
Split-core, non-intrusive design: Featuring a push-to-open clamp mechanism, the CTs clip directly onto the exterior of cables or busbars. This eliminates the need to disconnect terminals or cut power, allowing for safe, live installation in low-voltage environments when following standard operating procedures.
Precision matching via tiered ranges: Five aperture sizes correspond to different current ranges. Small-aperture CTs are used for low-current circuits to ensure measurement accuracy, while large-aperture CTs accommodate the conductor sizes of high-current circuits, balancing precision with compatibility.
Continuous load monitoring mode: Output signals from the CTs are fed into a portable acquisition terminal. Continuous data collection is performed over a 72-hour period for each circuit, fully capturing operational states—including production, standby, and peak load periods—to generate load profiles and power quality reports.
Zero-outage testing throughout; no production losses for enterprises: All circuit testing was conducted during normal production operations. Enterprises did not need to halt production or apply for scheduled power outages. All 32 participating enterprises successfully completed the testing without incurring any losses due to production interruptions, effectively resolving industry pain points regarding the difficulty and slow progress of testing in industrial parks.
Comprehensive specification coverage; one equipment set for all scenarios: The system covers a full range of aperture sizes from φ30mm to φ150mm. A single maintenance team carrying one set of equipment can service any circuit, from branch lines to main incoming lines. This eliminates the need for frequent equipment changes and significantly enhances on-site operational flexibility.
High-precision continuous acquisition with robust data support: With 0.5-class measurement accuracy and 72-hour continuous sampling, the system precisely captures critical data such as peak loads, three-phase unbalance, and power factor fluctuations. The resulting test reports serve as a reliable basis for safety rectifications and energy-efficiency upgrades, with data credibility recognized by both enterprises and regulatory authorities. Deployment efficiency tripled, significantly shortening project timelines. Installing a single-circuit current transformer and performing terminal commissioning took an average of only 5 minutes—more than three times faster than traditional methods requiring power outages and wire disconnection for testing. Inspections for all 286 circuits across the industrial park were completed in just 21 days, well ahead of the original 60-day schedule, successfully concluding the targeted remediation initiative.
Portable and durable, suited for complex on-site conditions. The lightweight, rugged, and drop-resistant transformers are easy for O&M personnel to carry between different factory areas. The wear-resistant design of the clamp jaws ensures that repeated opening and closing does not compromise measurement accuracy, maintaining stable performance even under long-term, high-frequency use.
Comprehensive hazard identification and closed-loop remediation. The project identified 21 overloaded circuits, 37 circuits with severe three-phase imbalance, 19 circuits with low power factor, and 7 instances of leakage risks due to insulation degradation. Remediation lists were issued to the respective enterprises; by the end of 2025, the hazard rectification completion rate reached 92%, significantly enhancing the park's power distribution safety.
Data-driven energy efficiency upgrades and cost reductions for enterprises. Based on load monitoring data, 12 enterprises received energy-saving recommendations—such as air compressor optimization, time-based lighting control, and reactive power compensation upgrades. Implementation resulted in average monthly electricity savings of approximately 1,200 kWh per factory and annual cost savings exceeding 100,000 RMB, with investment payback periods of less than one year.
Enhanced O&M efficiency and expanded service models. Leveraging this equipment, third-party O&M providers upgraded their annual safety inspection services from "one-time instantaneous checks" to "quarterly continuous load monitoring." This increased service value by 40% and significantly boosted customer renewal rates, establishing a replicable model for industrial power distribution O&M services.
Stable equipment performance with zero failures during high-frequency use. Throughout the project, the transformers underwent over 1,200 opening/closing cycles without issues such as poor jaw contact, accuracy drift, or insulation damage. With a 100% equipment integrity rate, the system fully met the demands of high-frequency, multi-scenario industrial O&M inspections. VI. Case Summary
Split-core clamp-on current transformers are essential portable measuring devices for power system O&M, energy efficiency diagnostics, and safety inspections. They effectively resolve key challenges encountered in industrial settings—specifically the difficulty of scheduling power outages, slow deployment, and inadequate measurement range coverage. Combining the convenience of split-core installation with revenue-grade measurement accuracy, these devices are suitable for both temporary troubleshooting and targeted load surveys, as well as for use as a supplementary solution for permanent monitoring systems; they are indispensable tools for third-party power service providers and corporate O&M departments.
